Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival

This festival has been a Burnaby tradition since 2000. Held on the scenic lawn of Deer Lake it attracts music lovers from far and near.

This one-day-only event is held every August and usually sells out early with the crowd enjoying food kiosks, beer gardens, children’s events, as well as, dancing and lounging on the grass while different acts perform on the main stage as well as two other adjacent stages.

This is the only blues and roots festival in the Lower Mainland, the festival usually attracts more than 5,000 visitors. The entire festival is child-friendly: near the front of the stage, children dance to the tunes, and strollers are parked alongside blankets spread in the massive field. The festival has a family area where there are child friendly activities.

The festival runs between 1pm through to 10pm. The gates open at at 12 noon.

Early-goers can stroll through the Artisan Village, a collection of pop-up booths that sold everything from hand carved crafts to tie-dyed dresses and necklaces made of exotic materials.

Between the musical sets, people strolled among food carts, the wine and beer garden, and the Artisan Village.

The setting for this festival is idyllic with its beautiful views of Deer Lake and the kayakers drifting on the still waters of the lake behind the stage. Be sure to bring your sunscreen

Past Performers include Blue Rodeo, John Mayall, K.D. Lang, Imelda May, David Lindley, The Secret Sisters, Taj Mahal and Serena Rider.
